The Walcott that arguably beat Louis (or whatever you think is the best Walcott) fights the Holmes that decisioned Norton. Ring Magazine picked this as one of the top 50 greatest fantasy fights of all time.
Probably the hardest champion for Holmes who’s not in most peoples’ top ten all-time. In fact…I was initially thinking Holmes, but that mayve been reputation bias. Thinking about them in the ring as I type this, I dunno. I might suspect a Walcott upset here on points.
I'd favor Holmes but Walcott is a very live dog. He was a master at controlling the pace of a fight and he'd offset Holmes jabbing rhythm with those beautiful right hand counters. That's a big part of the fight right there - can Walcott take away the Holmes jab sufficiently. I can see him landing some right hand bombs. He'd also be very dangerous in every exchange. It's a great match.
Holmes decision behind the cautious jab, he needs to be careful as Walcott has a great counter right and is great at baiting you into it it.
Never thought about this hypothetical match up. Fascinating! I would take Holmes on points after the hard fought spectacle.
