how many fighters have tried to copy it and actuslly have it work for them as well as joe? ive watched him do it several times and its not only brilliant and terriffic but really shocks the opponent.
many have tried it but none have been able to totally copy the sneaky pinpoint power of Walcott, it was not only the legs but the quick hands and power...Walcott was one of the best at all 3 of those quality's combined...Lets face it he KO'd Charles, Dropped Louis 3 times and put Marciano down...besides beating some of the best black fighters of his era
He also had a sneaky left hook. Jones & Hopkins are the only ones off the top of my head that could have success walking away then catching their opponent off guard. I think Whitaker too.
I saw Buddy McGirt do it a few times, and ,later read that he was influenced by,and admired Walcott's skills.
Greg Page tried to copy that punch and walk away routine. It was 1) punch 2) turn 3) walk away 4) turn southpaw 5) shift back to orthodox 6) square up 7) feint a right hand 8) shoot the left jab Beautiful when done by the master.
Absolutely,,,,,,,,vs Coetzee in the 8th Round,,,,,,finished by the left hook. It was done perfectly, a Jersey Joe Copy. Boucher you are The Man,,,,:good
I'm just thinking of some clown in a thread a few days ago who posted something to the effect of "Walcott was clever, but he couldn't hang with the heavyweights of today"...
jersey joe would have PLAYED with todays heavyweights. Kelvin Seabrooks showed me the walk away in 1985, i'm still trying to figure it out!
Ezzard Charles does this a good few times to Joe Louis, although it is sometimes a longer right than Walcott would throw.
