Anyone own this? If so is it a good read? Wish Adam Pollack would do a book on Jess, hope he comes out of literary retirement. http://www.ibroresearch.com/2017/10...hampion-of-the-world-1915-1919-by-arly-allen/
Definitely a good book Beware if you want to maintain the image of him as a boxing zero who was plucked from the farm to beat top level professional boxers with his size alone.
He actually helped me substantiate some of the russian boxing scene in the middle ages. Still owes me a translation of an Eastern Orthodox decree that banned fist fighting in the 1200's.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir's_Sobor it was here where the decree was made, I actually found it on a Russian site using google but I lost the source when my laptop died. I sent it to Arly to try and get a higher quality translation since he works at a Uni. I could probably find it in my email but we had a long exchange.
I'm aware of that. Retyped text can be seen at http://ancient-orthodoxy.narod.ru/doc/1274.htm (paragraph "3."), but it's in ancient Russian (which was in use until XIV-XV centuries; superseded by what is called old Russian, which was in use in XIV-XIX centuries), with many words I don't know (they don't exist in modern Russian). So I was going to find it among old manuscripts that have been re-printed from 1830s until now, with translations and/or notes.
