Could the " ol mongoose" take apart the bigger and taller Jess Willard, the man who KO'd Jack Johnson.

    Prime for prime.

    Who takes it and why?

Pick Archie to pick him apart. Late round stoppage or wide decision for the mongoose.

Moore would likely stop him late either due to facial injury or Willard quitting. Jess was perfect opponent for Moore to pick him apart.

Old Mongoose would have to be careful with Jess uppercut though, Willard could really punch.

    Willard quit against Joe Cox.

Moore had too much skill, too quick and had good power.

Your reaching for straws. Kinda nonsensical in an arguement situation to bring up non relavant history to try to prove your point.

    Did Willard quit or not?

Despite what the previous poster stated, Jess had some quit in him.

There were those present who thought he quit against Dempsey.

Interesting how many people think Archie picks the underrated Willard apart, but the very same posters give no chance to ANY other smaller heavywieght to beat a skilled big man.

    Think about it

The man had the snot beat out of him by Jack Dempsey on July 4, 1919 in Toledo! His corner threw in the towel...Willard didn't quit! I've been watching boxing since 1963...I've seen lots of "so called" fighters quit for a lot less!!!

This reminds me of the very last paragraph in A.J. Liebling's "The Sweet Science", from 1956 - where he reflects back to a 1923 card in Yankee Stadium, featuring Jess Willard vs Floyd Johnson and Luis Firpo vs Jack McAuliffe II:

I reflected with satisfaction that old Ahab Moore could have whipped all four principals on the card within fifteen rounds, and that while Dempsey may have been a great champion, he had less to beat than Marciano. I felt the satisfaction because it proved that the world isn't going backward, if you can just stay young enough to remember what it was really like when you were really young.

Interesting how anyone would think Willard is a big, skilled man.

Willard's biggest win in the Heavyweight Division was Jack Johnson. I loved watching Archie Moore, but I'm having trouble remembering his best heavyweight win. Until I can think of one really good one, I'm going with Jess in this hypothetical match up.
