This fight should have taken place when willard was champion, after Fulton obliterated the old tar baby in 1917. Some say Fred Fulton embarrased willard in sparring matches so willard ducked him.

Who wins? who was the better big white hope?

Depends on the rules that both agree with imo. Willard will I suppose try to get a nd bout with Fulton, as he did with Frank Moran.

Fulton outboxes Willard but sooner or later, Willard fights a hard punch and Fulton's weak chin cannot take it.

That is my take also. Fulton's chin betrays him. Willard should be able to stand up to Fulton. Fulton, on the other hand, had the original eggshell jaw.

One thing about the Langford fight. Langford, according to old timers like Jack Gibbons and Ted Carroll, had suffered a severe cut in sparring just days before the fight. Langford went through with the bout anyway. I imagine the purse was much bigger than he was used to. Fulton reopened the cut with his first jab and from then on Langford was severely handicapped.

I would give Fulton a fair chance here. He seems to have been a much better boxer than Willard.

Even so I tend to agree with those who say that Willard would probably get to him sooner or later. If Willard was smart he would make the fight a 45 rounder. The shorter it is the more chance Fulton wins.
