Sorry--I deleted my comment as you were typing yours, apparently. Yeah, Fury is an inconsistent, unstable guy. He's still light years beyond Willard in terms of skill and overall abilities though. It's a shame we don't have footage of Willard in with a skilled athletic 6'3/81-inch reach guy like Cunningham or even big men like Chisora and McDermott.

Fury looks like a guy who came from a boxing family and grew up boxing. He is loose, has good technique and skills. Willard also looks like what he was, a guy who never boxed until he was almost 30 years old and always looked stiff and nonathletic. Willard's strength as a boxer was that he was big, little else. Fury would beat Willard on his way to a real fight and most of his opponents would have beaten Willard too.

This is something that needs or be watched before comparisons are made.

What’s so good about Chisora and McDermott? I think Frank Moran, Jack Johnson and Karl Morris were better fighters than McDermott and Chisora.

You gonna continue to bring up fights where Fury was green and still learning...or you gonna bring up fights involving the prime fury of 2014-15 whom progressed significantly. Watch the way he handled chisora in the rematch compared to the first fight...chisora couldn’t even land on him in the rematch.

Fury dominated an ATG heavyweight champion who hadn’t lost in 10 years...beat him 117-111..wlad could barely land a punch fury had gotten so good at fighting on the outside and using his height and reach and fast feet to keep opponents at a distance..

How does Willard do against Wlad?

    Willard wouldn’t stand a chance against a 14-15 Fury

Chisora was pathetic in the rematch. Hog fat. Fury did as he wanted, this is true, but it was only Derek Chisora for Petes sake.

way to go. Wlad was older than Ali was against Larry Holmes.

Willard and Wlad could be the same person. They fought very similar to each other. Willard had a 70% kayo percentage. If you want to champion Superheavyweights you have to acknowledge and rate big ole Jess Willard too.

I just have to say, even when I disagree with Choklab, like now (although not completely) he always manages to put up a good argument. Kudos.

Hells no. Not even close. Willard did that hands down thing and the mincing gloves thing and tried to leap in and out like a fencer. Wlad fights with superb balance, controls distance and uses a great jab to set his shots up with. They were both big and white. That's about the extent of the similarities.

    Here's a Jess Willard fight:

He's extremely flat footed, keeps his guard super low and tries to slug in the maul as a primary tactic. Wlad would grab and lean, to tire the opponent out without expending his own energy. He wuld also make the other guy pay over and over for closing the distance. Willard always leaves me unimpressed.

Wlad aged very well...this was nearly the same Wlad who knocked out pulev, then 2 years after the fury fight he nearly beat Anthony Joshua.

    It’s a great win...

Far better win than beating a 37 year old jack Johnson whom sported a spear tire around his belly

Of course neither were in their prime at all.

Wlad had a better trainer and also had the amateur pedigree but there are more comparisons with Willard than Jess is ever given credit for.

One time somebody uploaded a Klitschko fight and made the film flicker in black and white as would have done under hand kranked cameras and to be honest, it looked like a Jess Willard fight. It really did.

It must be on YouTube somewhere.
