I think Willard was quicker, faster, and defended himself better. He had much the better chin, and was a far sharper puncher than the clubbing Italian. Carnera is not physically manhandling him. On offense, Primo probably had much the better hook, but I wouldn't be comfortable giving him the edge in much else. He certainly used his jab more than Jess, but I don't know that it was a superior jab to Willard's.

Willard could slip, block, duck and counter off the ropes. Such an instance was his best display against Moran, and he made Johnson come to him in some of the early going at Havana. On the inside, Jess would have all the better of it. He was much the more natural talent. Both dealt with men their own size. This is a rare instance where Carnera does not have the edge in stamina, or very possibly in physical strength either. In any event, this is a situation where there is plenty of extent footage of both for the sake of comparison.

How many rounds? The shorter the better for Carnera. I think Carnera had the edge on skills and was a little quicker / better athlete.

But Carnera had trouble taking head shots. Willard was more durable.

Not an easy fight to pick. The two most likely results are Willard via stoppage, or Carnera via decision. Under the rules given in the thread, I would pick Carnera via UD.

Carnera by decision or Willard by late TKO. Willard in 20 rounds or more.

Carnera has zero to hold Willard off with and was next to impossible to hit with a right hand ... almost forgotten was what a huge puncher Willard actually was ... I don't see Primo doing any better than he did v.s.Baer ..
