Talking about big foot yesterday got me thinking about this match up. Both guys fought most of the top names of there era. Ferguson even getting a title shot. Who would win the battle of the journey men, both experienced in all styles, which fighter would be top dog??
Martin's specialty was going the distance and spoiling a little. But, he really didn't do a whole lot offensively. At his best, The Boogey man actually had decent skills. I would go with Ferguson by UD.
Ferguson was a good fighter and naturally a better equipped Heavyweight. His win against Buster Douglas was a real fight between two guys who wanted to win.
Gotta go with Ferguson here. For all practical purposes both men were journeyman who occasionally had a good moment here and there. But for Jesse that moment came a bit more often and unlike Martin he was a guy who actually entered a ring with the "intention" of trying to win. Bigfoot seemed like a nice guy and was certainly brave for taking on the insanely long list of dangerous fighters that he faced. But he was more or less a man filling a role and following a script where he'd show up just to survive, give the other guy some exercise and confidence and then collect his check. I read an article about him once and To give you an idea of what his mentality was like, most fighters make excuses for their losses. Everett on the other hand made excuses for why the other guy might have had problems with him, i.e " Witherspoon didn't seem like himself" or " Tony tucker went easy on me and let me go the distance". Or " Michael Moorer didn't look like he trained for me. " You just can't bet on a guy like that to go out secure a win against anyone with any certainty. .. Jesse Ferguson by decision
