Round 1 Magdaleno is barking as he comes in with a southpaw 1-2, then quickly steps out. Ruiz is using the left glove to pick off the jabs well in a drawbridge-lowering motion. Magdaleno is unable to get off inside without Ruiz giving him a receipt. Magdaleno is still getting more punches off with his much greater hand speed but very little is clean or sat down upon. Light right jabs on the body, throwaway lefts into Ruiz's guard, and right hooks on the backside by Magdaleno. Ruiz is just touching him with counter left jabs outworked but doing cleaner work and not losing his composure in the face of Magdaleno's speed. 10-9 Magdaleno
Round 2 Magdaleno is steadying himself with the right jab, pumping it lightly in place as he circles out and resets before darting in with another lightning strike. Ruiz is approaching, slow and steady, exhibiting good tight defense on the way in, and picking off maybe 90% of Magdaleno's weak feel-out right jabs, while lining up counter right hands and coming nearer and nearer to making contact with them as Magdaleno ducks in with quick flurries. 10-9 Magdaleno but no whitewash 20-18 Magdaleno
Round 3 Magdaleno is throwing quick flurries rushing in and then cruising out behind a push-away right jab. Ruiz is targeting Magdaleno's body with rights bowled in underhand while leaning over to his right. Ruiz lands a jab and trots around Magdaleno sticking his tongue out. Magdaleno is caught by a right hand while sticking out a lazy jab. Ruiz follows with a stiff left jab walking Magdaleno into a corner. Ruiz is showboating, bicycle-wheeling his feet in a little dance and grinning. 10-9 Ruiz 29-28 Magdaleno
Round 4 Magdaleno is pushed into a corner immediately, Ruiz using his long straight punches and height to ramrod Magdaleno with both hands, blinding him and keeping him pinned in place. Magdaleno is able to shimmy out flashing a right jab to get free. Magdaleno is jabbing up from the hip with his right and circling rapidly to his left. Ruiz is moving in, applying the brakes when Magdaleno explodes with an ambush right hook, making Magdaleno slice the air with it as Ruiz leans back and counters with a short educated right. Magdaleno ties up and runs to his right. Magdaleno hops up and down in place a few times. Magdaleno bounces to his left, then dives straight in, head down, throwing a right hook up into the air. Ruiz pushes down on him and makes the hook miss. Ruiz is sweeping punches across Magdaleno's back as he bends in close. Flush right hand lead by Ruiz as Magdaleno straightens up by the ropes. 10-9 Ruiz 38-38
Not pointless, it turns out. Jessie is working hard tonight (more than perhaps ever before), and momentum is against him only halfway into this one...
The Magdaleno Brothers both have yet to truly impress me, I wouldn't doubt Jesse loses like Diego in the near future, maybe even tonight.
Round 5 Magdaleno is tossing quick right hooks as he pivots on his right big toe, getting a side angle on Ruiz and briefly closing the distance. Ruiz prods Magdaleno in the chest with left jabs, and swats down Magdaleno's right jabs in between. Ruiz's left is never inert. There's a left uppercut as he pressures Magdaleno into the ropes. Magdaleno is extending his right jab up into the air while sitting back and moving away. Double left hook on the body by Ruiz and hacking right on the neck. They exchange up close at the bell. Magdaleno shoeshines light and quick on the body, barking, and Ruiz feeds him a stiff left. 10-9 Ruiz 48-47 Ruiz
Did I hear that correctly? Ruiz spars with BRANDON RIOS? :scaredas: Yeah, Magdaleno is screwed, then, if he is hoping to bail himself out with a late KO...
Round 6 Magdaleno briefly switches to orthodox, jabbing and hopping to his right. Magdaleno switches back to southpaw, reaching with jabs. The reach and timing of Ruiz are making Magdaleno shy to come into range, even with his speed advantage. Flush jabs by Ruiz. Magdaleno is whipping out right hooks as far as they'll go, kicking out his right foot and planting it mid-throw. Ruiz is standing upright and making slight adjustments to his footwork, in and out and side to side, keeping Magdaleno on the end of his jab and mixing in long right hands conservatively. 10-9 Ruiz 58-56 Ruiz
