Terrible performance from Uchiyama. Jazreel was winding those straight lefts up big time. Should've seen them a mile off.
I think he was caught by a few straight ones in the first round that might have thrown him a bit when he got hurt. The first one that dropped him was a beauty and I don't think he ever recovered enough to avoid the ones that came afterwards
What does it matter? He has almost no other Featherweight to compare the power too. Sure the guy hits hard compared to guys Donaire's size, but things are relative and we have no idea if he hits as hard as a fully fledged Super Featherweight. Might as well let Klitschko what a Flyweight and go "did he hit hard?"
Time and tide wait for no man. 130 just got blown wide open and will now be really interesting. Lots of guys in their 20s with nice records all vying for no.1 sport
[yt]ublEfqThucM[/yt] Every time Uchiyama took a step forward his movement was stifled by Corrales' body punching, feinting & timely clinching. Uchiyama couldn't establish any rhythm whatsoever. That final shot was thrown so wildly. I never would've expected Uchiyama to be caught & knocked out by something like that...and it didn't even land all that flush. Corrales had just done a number on him by then. Even by about 5:00 of the video the ex-champ looked extremely uncomfortable. Even though he ended the round applying pressure his body language had none of the confidence he usually exhibits.
Yup, he knew exactly what to do to Uchiyama. Body punch, sometimes left to the head whilst Uchiyama was coming forward. Uchiyama getting too close? Clinch. Throw the left to the head again, Uchiyama slips towards his right and tries to parry the punch, go straight in with a looping shot as Uchiyama tries to get back to centre line. Great movement around the ring to cause Uchiyama to be the follower, Uchiyama eventually is programmed into making the mistake of squaring up and throwing, with Corrales choosing to counter Uchiyama with a looping left. Corrales brilliantly switches to orthodox to throw another looping shot, and follows that up with an onslaught. The set up for the second knockdown was brilliant. Feint to the body, keeping head a little 'exposed' to mislead. Uchiyama commits, roll the shot and immediately counter with a beautiful hook. Some of Jezreel's punches look wild, but they are 100% to set up other shots. He feints the jab and Uchiyama is very reactive to the feint and gets closer to the ropes, Jezreel then throws a looping punch against the gloves in order to bait Uchiyama into committing to a punch so that Jezreel can immediately drive an answer to that with a power punch that Uchiyama hadn't prepared for.
Dammm this kid corrales is really good!!! At the beginning of the first round you can hear his corner yelling at him "he had fought nobody, show him no respect, show him who you are"
That first knockdown, holy molé. How was this only Jezreel's eighth pro KO if he can uncork something like that? Shades of Hasegawa or Selby (late bloomers who suddenly began stopping very tough opposition after spending the first half of their careers mostly going the distance with lesser foes)
Just watched the video. The Panamanian guy looks like an athletic novice. Sort of a small, poor man's Pascal. Crossing his feet, sticking his chin out over his gloves...he's going to beat Walters, are you serious? The Jap is old and his reflexes are shot. Never watched him fight before, but he didn't react to punches at all.
I think it was partly that but I also do agree with Gannicus. JC has a style that looks sort of slapdash (especially offensively) but there is a method to his madness. Uchiyama is diminished, though. Combination of both at work here.
Maybe there was an evolution of style and gameplan to play more towards his natural advantages and natural fighting instinct over the course of his career. I do think we need to see more of him, though to be sure whether he is Jezreal deal.
Selby is exactly what I thought. He's on a tear of stoppage wins atm so clearly has power there. Records a bit deceptive because of the number of 4 and 6 and 8 rounders. Either way, he's done a number on the consensus best SFW out there. Does that mean he's now the consensus number 1 himself?
