Yes, if he beats Pavlik theres no question he's the number 1 fighter in the world, if he beats Jones he should stay in the same place or go down a spot imo.

No. It would be a great win over a very good younger prospect and a prime p4p top ten man. It's not the be and end all though IMO. It's just a competitive fight that Calzaghe should be taking rather then the joke of a fight he's chosen.

    Simple solution.

Fight both & beat both convincingly.

Then wait for the Americans to come up with another excuse why Calzaghe has remained unbeaten for his whole career.

I think he would **** Pavlik up to be honest, he wasnt meant to beat Lacy or Kessler either BEFORE the fight if I remember. The guy is a great boxer, give him credit man.

    Why would beating a middle weight make him p4p # 1 ?

If he were to beat a Dawson or Tarver I would say yes .

If he beat Pavlik he would just sit at # 3 like he is now ..

I disagree, Pavlik is a great fighter and is on Joe's level. Pavlik may be a middleweight, but he has the body type to be a natural LT. Heavyweight. His record, and resume is good enough to move Joe up two spots if he beats Pavlik badly.

You have to beat more than 1 quality opponent to be considered great ..Pavlik isn't there yet ..He's exciting an keeps coming but lets hold up on the great tag until he cleans up the division ..I do beleive he will be great but he's not there just yet ...And how is he on Joe's level ? Other than Taylor who has he fought that will test him ? I didn't realize that greatness comes after 1 good win ..He beats Double A he's got a foot in the door of greatness ..But I going to wait and see what he does next ..I don't want to make the same mistake Lacy fans made before his fight with Joe ..He was garunteed a top spot p4p if he beat Joe but then you saw what happened ..

Fair enough, but Pavlik is knocking on Calzaghe's door, and Calzaghe has proven himself to afraid to answer, instead he chooses to fight a washed up ATG in Jones. Pavlik must have something special, because it doesnt look like anyone wants to fight him.

I should of chose my words more wisely, Pavlik isnt great, but he is on the same level as Calzaghe imo, Calzaghe struggled and just barely beat a past his prime Hopkins, who should not be considered great at this time in his career. Calzaghe/Pavlik is the fight we all want to see, the winner should be considered the P4P best.

I think he would beat both Roy and Pavlik, I don't see what the big deal is, he is on his last fight or two, nothing wrong with making a little money and Roy is no pushover either. Its not a joke of a fight, im looking forward to it, no matter how gone Roy is don't count him out until the fight is over.

Well I don't see why he is afraid of Pavlik considering the people he's already fought ..I know for a fact Abrham wants to fight him that much is certain and I beleive Kelly should oblige him ..

Look no one here can answer honestly when Hopkins was prime so with that said lets not discredit that win ..That was the best Hopkins he could of fought ..People like to disagree but name me one time Hopkins looked better than he has at Lt heavy ? It all started with the Tarver beat down ..Outside the Trinidad fight people were bicthing and moaning that all he did was fight smaller guys ..

Hopkins is one of those exceptional fighters ..Joe beat a very game Hopkins ..The diffrence is Joe is very good at adapting ..Anyone struggles against Hopkins ,can you give me one example where Hopkins was ever close to being dominated ? Both of his losses to Taylor were by razor thin decisions and imo that series should be 1-1.

And how can you not say Hopkins should not be considered great ?

Hopkins is a ATG, but not at this stage in his career. The man gassed out down the stretch, which is very common for a guy to do at 43. Hopkins was not in his prime that night, me and you both know that.

Hopkins was never really dominated, was beat by a prime Jones pretty soundly though. The Taylor fights were close, I had the series even as well.

Hopkins will be a great in my eyes, wins over Tarver, Tito, Oscar, Johnson, Winky, etc..., there's no denying Hopkins greatness, Calzaghe's greatness is a whole nother story.

I agree he was beat by Jones but it was far from soundly ..He was just outworked ..And not an ATG ath this stage ? He was the defending lineal lt heavy weight champ What more did he have bring coming into the fight to convince you other wise ?

...And gassed down the stretch because of age ? C'mon brotha stop it how old was he in the Tarver fight .Give Joe credit mang ..And yes Hopkins was prime if Hopkins had been Ko ed then I would agree but he lost by a split decision ..Allot of people felt he won but now he's shot ..Ah what can you do there is no convincing you

Jones won in the glorified sparring session/fight, just too skilled and talented for Hopkins back in 93. He was LT. Heavyweight champ, he beat a Tarver that just got done losing damn near 50 pounds from his role in that "Rocky" movie, so Tarver wasnt at his best either.

I dont think Hopkins looked prime too me, he performed well early on, but faded down the stretch, if it was just 4 or 5 years ago, he would of beat Joe on the cards without a doubt, better stamina, more speed, and wasnt afraid to let the right hand go more. Calzaghe might of even been stopped against that version of Hopkins.
