Jhonny Garcia vs. William Urina RBR

Round 6

Garcia slaps to the body with either hand. Urina pulls his head tightly in between his hunched shoulders and swims straight through the storm and throws short, heavy punches once inside. Good right jab to the face by Urina. Garcia is not liking the amount of body punches he's taking and is wincing a bit as he backs up. Garcia goes down after an exchange! He complains of a headbutt and no KD is ruled. Was there actually a butt? Yeah, both fighters look dazed. Ooh, yeah, replay. Both actually landed body punches at the exact same time but their hairlines crashed together hard. Both are cut. They get back to it, and Garcia is slapping with left hooks and lead right hands, all blocked.

 

Thankfully, yes. Actually, the channel is Telefutura HD and some of their programming is in true Hi Def, but on Solo Boxeo the aspect ratio isn't right (it doesn't fit to the screen; it's shrunk down to 16:9 and centered with border graphics on either side). At least it's high-quality picture, though.

This regular Telemundo crap, though - it's hurting my eyes.

 

Round 7

They hook together and Urina lands more hooks, and lands the meaner hooks. Garcia is getting chased out of every exchange. Urina slides his feet into a wide stance and comfortably pops off southpaw jabs. Garcia flinches and picks jabs out of his teeth while backing away and looking for angles to jump in and attack Urina without getting touched by that right hand. Garcia lands a loop-around right after a break. Urina then lands a straight combo to his face. HARD left uppercut just at the beltline by Urina!!!! Garcia stands and slugs with him, letting his hands go nonstop but with very little fire. Urina isnt exploiting it, just tucking his head down into Garcia's chest and finding cover from the furious onslaught of arm punches.

Round 8

Urina leads with right jabs. Stiff ones. Garcia leans forward and backward, daring Urina to hit him and then removing the target. They paw with some exploratory punches, both obviously taking the early part of the round to suck some extra win. Urina lands some reaching right jabs. Triple right jab from Urina backs Garcia all the way across the ring, with every one bouncing off his chin. Urina winning this round big with just his jab. Garcia is giving lots of ground, and now trapped on the ropes, leaning away and folding his head to his shoulder. Garcia lets out a trickle of arm punches as he circles his way off the ropes. Urina follows him, slow of foot but focusing on careful punch timing. Garcia whips with some body hooks and jumps in with some slapping combos.

Round 9

It's a battle of vicious body shots, forehead pinned to forehead, and Garcia backs out. Garcia looks to line Urina up with an overhand right but keeps collapsing on him trying to land it. They pepper each other with body shots some more and eventually crescendo into a back-and-forth headshot exchange, with Garcia going slightly off balance at one point. Urina rocks Garcia's head with a straight left, and Garcia rocks Urina a moment later with a right. It's Rock Em Sock Em Robots. Whose head will spring up and tear their spine out with it??? Hard whips to the body by Garcia, but he's left open for a right jab that knocks him back and off balance. They trade hooks and Urina lands well but also wears one that turns his head. They finally slow down and Urina throws a lazy 1-2 that is ducked before they clinch. Garcia slaps with a right hand at the bell.

 

Round 10

Urina snaps out right jabs and mixes in some left crosses. Garcia just whips and windmills his way in with some things that could vaguely be called body shots and some others that could vaguely be called head shots. Technique has been cast aside. Garcia is just trying to outfight Urina, but the Colombian insists on boxing. They trade shots in close and Garcia is more aggressive but less defensively aware, as Urina is at least covering his face in between punches. Hard 1-1-2 just misses for Urina. Garcia slaps him right on the nose with a right hand. Urina has a nasty gash on his right cheek, sending blood streaming down his face but not affecting his vision. Garcia HURT by a stiff right jab - his lip quivering and his eyes glazing over a bit. Urina hits him a few more times but Garcia gets over it and seems fine by the time the bell rings.

 

Round 11

They jab at each other, and take turns stutter-stepping inside with their opposing hooks (left for Garcia and right for Urina). Both are throwing and landing at about an equal clip, and even pace. Garcia starts to sell out to the body a bit. The action is paused so a physician can check Urina's face. It's a bad cut, but like I said earlier not in a spot that it's getting in his eye. The doctor agrees it's fine to let him go on. Garcia now appears to be cut too - or his eyes are just bruised to the point that they're bright red. They're certainly already swollen. A sudden volley of HARD STRAIGHT punches from Garcia, gritting his teeth. Urina toughs it out and blocks much of it but is backed up and has his cut ripped open. Urina backs Garcia up with his still-snappy right jab. Garcia then takes his turn to come forward and lobs in a few low body shots. Hard right hook to the face by Urina. He lands another that backs Garcia up into a corner, and Garcia falls to his hands and knees (ruled a slip)

 

Round 12

Urina misses his right jab, too hasty with it. Garcia throws and misses wild rights. Garcia backs up and waves his fists at his sides, building up nerve and/or bloodflow. He's in a southpaw stance now. He starts swinging low shots coming forward, and leaning against the pinned-together forearms of Urina. Garcia turns orthodox briefly and then back southpaw and comes in a bit heavy on the front foot behind a pushed right jab - BIG MISTAKE!!!!! Urina throws a combo (hard right jab, left cross, HARD right jab) and Garcia is dropped quite abruptly, on the seat of his pants. He appears dazed but not out of it...and gets up, responsive to the referee. Urina goes for broke and just pummels Garcia's body, swarming all over him. Garcia pulls him into a clinch. Garcia is breathing out of his mouth and dancing on his toes on the outside. He slaps with right hands while circling and further sunders the flesh of Urina's cheek but is getting caught flush and staggered and nearly goes down once more. Both are fighting southpaw, and staying just outside each other's jab. Garcia switches back to orthodox and appears to be trying to do anything to survive. Urina clocks him a couple of times and Garcia gets wide-eyed and answers with a few bombs that leave Urina frozen stiff.

Good fight.

 

WOW! The Telemundo team's unofficial scorecard had Garcia up 116-110; they gave Urina only three rounds and not a single one between 7 and 11 (7 and 8 were two of the clearest and easiest to score, IMO - Garcia got beat up there).

We'll see what happened officially...
