Well that wasn't an upset per the odds makers (Russell was an 8/13 fave) but González was the belt holder and had lots of fans & experts backing him by KO, so you can sort of call that the third upset on the card, after Ayala UD8 Gavril and Juarez MD8 Seda. :think

Good win by GRJ... Jhonny has always been susceptible to getting tagged.. he leaves himself wide open at times.. and he tends to respond to getting tagged by fighting back which leaves him more open to being tagged.

Still, he's lost a step or 2.. but he probably never beats this version of Russell any point in his career.. even though he's well past prime... he's a old old 33.

The thing that ****es me off the most about tonight was Vanes' fight. He won but has to know that if you're B-side against a prospect you need to win it so that there is no doubt. He was too content to box for most of the fight instead of up'ing the pressure and pace the way he did after the head butt. To bad for him that but didn't come sooner.

Ya I know! That is the frustrating thing about him. You konw how Teddy Atlas is always saying know your identity. Its like he's never really figured out that he's a pressure fighter that can box and not a boxer that can pressure.

Also the other thing that he struggles with, which other good prospects sometimes struggle with once they get to top level, is that at the top level you can't win fights on talent alone. When two A level talents meet their talents often cancel each other out and it becomes more of a contest of wills then of skills.

Lamont Peterson is another guy that needed to have a few failures before he figured that one out.

End of the 12th ****es me off with Charlo on the back foot running not doing much and smiling like he knows he doesn't need to fight to win it.

Yea I'm on serious medication ..

    Should of been 12 rounds!

Really as close as it was Charlo was TOO comfortable.

I thought that too. But, I think he meant more important in terms of his boxing career.

Charlo Vanes was a tight tight fight, I had it a draw but I have no problem giving it to Vanes because he did push it a bit more, hes a quick operator.
I gave the 8 to Charlo where Vanes came out hard becuase he walked into a lot of shots that got him the draw in my opinion
