It’s hard to really say how such a match would play out, the sport was so much different in Corbett’s time. Based on the limited footage we have of Corbett, he doesn’t really look impressive offensively, but he was fighting in an era of fights to the finish, where stamina was the name of the game. He went 60 plus rounds with Peter Jackson. Over 20 with Sullivan and so forth. So a lot of his posturing and funny feints may look cheesy but they were a product of the rules he was fighting under. Bonavena had the luxury of being aggressive and attacking with set rules of 12-15 rounds. That style alone is going to make him aesthetically more pleasing to watch. But if Bonavena had to fight 60 rounds maybe he doesn’t quite look like Ringo anymore. Just vastly different times and under Oscar’s era, the rules are going to allow him to look better. I’ll say this even in black and white Corbett looks fast. He clearly was a good athlete. But the sport had lot of evolving to come.
