Moore by KO, his skillset and technique is just far far better, it really isn't close. I just pissed myself laughing watching that first Corbett link, which in fairness was only sparring, the second 1 is better but the technique level is still far far below the likes of Moore.
Under 1940s conditions, Corbett would be fined for obscenity for wearing the thong in public. But he’d copyright it and have the last laugh when the 1990s came along and it became standard beachwear for women who liked to show off their posteriors.
Corbett said that Tommy Loughran achieved and actualized what Jim himself always aspired to. Tommy did pretty well despite not having a first rate chin. Fitz fractured a wrist and knocked out someone with a forehead shot. But there's controversy over whether or not George Siler should've counted him out when Corbett decked him. Siler interrupted his count. You can time that KD on the Enoch Rector footage. Fitz told sportswriters after winning the title that his speed was ridiculous and almost impossible to deal with. Gene Tunney said his defense was superior to Benny Leonard's. He studied fencing and was a conditioning fanatic who withstood an absurd amount of body shots from Peter Jackson for 61 timed rounds. He was incredible at feinting punches. I think he'd be able to stay away from Moore like Cassius Clay did.
What are Corbett's 3 best wins? Moore has Olson Johnson x3 Baker Henry Satterfield Bivins x3 Maxim x3 Valdes x2
Moore very easily, Corbett is a legend in his own right, he progressed the game, but I genuinely believe any of us with a decent amount of experience in boxing would beat him, literally throw 2 punches, he leans right back, gives himself nowhere to go, and the follow up, the difference is that his opponents didn’t throw sophisticated combinations.
I mean, that's evolution before you. He was there to progress it, but not far enough in to see the true fruits of his labor. I'd thank him while whooping his ass, as without him, I wouldn't have such an opportunity.
Has Corbett ever fought anyone resembling Moore's defense? Corbett was a trailblazer in his day, but Moore was ahead of Corbett's time IMO. I think Moore bobs-n-weaves his way in close & eventually gets the stoppage at some point, circa rounds 8-10.
As much as I’d like to think I’d batter Corbett from the footage we have of him, the fact is that this is a man who’s boxing IQ and speed were immensely respected by Tunney, Loughran, as well as likely many other boxing figures that proceeded Jim. Odds are he only looks goofy because he’s just THAT confident in his abilities, enough to make mistakes because he’s just that sure he will be able to get away regardless. That’s my take
