I see so many discussions involving Driscoll being one of the very greatest FW fighters in history and I feel like I'm not getting something. I get that he beat Attell in a ND fight according to some sources, but Welsh had just beaten Attell himself. As far as I can tell that's pretty much all Driscoll did as a FW? As I said, I feel like I'm missing something.
Yeah I think from any kind of viewpoint in terms of resume, achievement, or H2H sees him comfortably outside the top echelon. I mean from what I can see, I see no reason to consider him a greater FW than Hamed for instance.
Well he does have the Attell "win"; Attell does belong firmly in the top ten. I'd have him clearly above Nas, personally.
But why is he clearly above Naz, this is what I don't get? Why is he do firmly in the top ten? Tell me what I'm missing because I feel like there's something that should be smacking me in the face with this guy and I'm doing my best Ali impression to avoid it.
Beat an all time great champion who ranks in the top ten. I mis-wrote - I typed "Driscoll" instead of "Attell".
I got the typo, I was actually tempted to correct it in my reply but thought that a bit presumptive. Ok so we have a great champion in Attell who Driscoll "beat" plus his dominance over the domestic scene. Is the combination of those two enough for a clear top ten placement? I mean if say we compare his resume with Naz. He has the best individual victory, but then the rest of his resume doesn't stack up does it?
No. Driscoll is NOT clear top ten, Attell is. Doesn't it? Naz seemed to me to beat a lot of good fighters who were no more than that, can't see Driscoll far behind that. But either way, it doesn't really matter to me. I have Attell at #5 all time and the victory is worth more than Naz's entire resume to me, literally. So if he spent the rest of his career beating just bums (and he didn't) i still think Driscoll above Naz would be reasonable. I don't have a hell of a lot in it though.
Ah so it was a double typo. That makes more sense to me now. I agree Attell is a clear top ten. Tbh I made a bit of a sweeping statement but I don't know the rankings of that time so for all I know he could have been beating top ten type guys.
I think it's fair to say that his next clutch of wins were claimed a weight up, but his resume is otherwise a bit light. I checked and I have them pretty close actually, very little in it but I have it to Driscoll.
This makes sense in my head. But I see some claim Driscoll is a lock for top 5 etc and I don't get it.
Good fighter but I don't see it. His resume is just far far too thin. A NWS win over Abe Attell in a 10 rounder, is a good result, but there's just not enough else to rank that high in a deep division
