It's a pity the fight ended up being such a let down.

What is even more of a pity is that Driscoll didn't head over to the States earlier and leave a more fitting legacy (to match his talent).

Would have been fantastic if he jumped up to lightweight and mixed it with the likes of Packey McFarland and Joe Gans.

Yeah they certainly hold them both in high regard in the interview.

Do you think he'd give McFarland and Gans a good run for their money?

    A typo, I suppose.
Although I don't have local reports of the bout, the three different next-day reports I have don't mention Welsh headbutting Driscoll, they only mention that he pounded the kidneys repeatedly in the clinches.

And I don't think that Driscoll had any chance of beating Gans or McFarland, both were too big for him and would have stopped him even quicker than Welsh. He only scaled 125 or 127 pounds for this bout, to Welsh's 132.

    I dont.

I think it was generally the holding and hitting, kidney punching and use of the shoulder that Welsh was doing to annoy Driscoll. And Driscoll lost it in the tenth, head butting him a few times then bull-charging him, although it appears he really regretted it afterwards and it was very unusual for Driscoll to do that.

This is an article I wrote on this bout

Very informative article you wrote GP. on the Driscoll-Welsh fight in 1910.
It should be noted Driscoll at 30 years of age,was on the downside of his career , while Freddie Welsh was 24 years of age, and in his prime.:good

Driscoll was warned for head-butting in the 7th round too.
