Cowdell had had 21 fights when he took Sanchez to a split dec,Driscoll had 77,he knew the game inside and out.
I'll try to track down some footage. I believe I saw some a while back (it was either Driscoll or Packey McFarland, one of SS's favorites), but I remember absolutely nothing.
Driscoll never fought McFarland, you are probably thinking of Freddie Welsh ,who fought McFarland for the British version of the Light weight tiltle.
ill admit i havent seen alot of Driscoll but from what i ahve saw of him its near perfection in terms of out boxing
I had Driscoll's fight with Robson and McFarland's fight with Welsh up on youtube but took them down a while ago. Driscoll's style looks quite progressive to me. I don't think, for instance, that boxers like Benny Leonard or Tommy Loughran look better from the footage I've seen. And he was already on the way out against Robson, so that footage isn't even footage of him at his best. Whilst a 4 round clip can't tell you all that much about a fighter, it does reveal clearly that he was very skilled. Could he step out of a time machine and beat Sanchez? Probably not. But make his birthdate 1960 and he probably hands Sanchez his ass.
Mate ive been looking for some footage on driscoll and welsh for ages, any chance you can upload them somewhere? cheers
cool will that be on you tube or will you post a link? my gramp will be well happy of I can get some footage of them.
Glad you put this up so others can see bit of Peerless Jim. Robson was good enough to beat,Harlem Tommy Murphy,George Dixon x2,draw with Abe Attell, and draw with Terry McGovern in a fight many said he won.
