I'd pick Frazier, but its not outside the realm of possibilty that Jeffries could win. Jim was a strong son of a *****, and his old school inside tactics combined with some of the more modern, would make fighting in close a nightmare for Frazier. He also had a deadly punch that could have really hurt Joe.

The reason i'd pick Frazier, is because he was a much faster high pressure fighter who would have thrown a much higher volume of punches than anyone jeffries ever met. He also likely would have been the hardest hitter, most athletic and possesed the fastes handspeed. At first guess, I would pick Joe by a late stoppage or wide decision. But he'd get some lumps along the way, and an upset is certainly possible.

Tough call. Maybe Joe could out-work Jeffries. I think it would probably go the distance. If there was a KO, I bet it would be Joe going down late. (I could also see a fight where Jeffries is able to use his strength to neutralize Joe when Frazier has the advantage, while Frazier is forced to fight through periods where Jeffries blows have him rocked).
    Again, tough call.

Fraizer does not have the chin to take Jeffries shots, the power to get him out of there early, or the brute strength to win a rough clinching type of fight.

    Jeffries via Mid round KO.

Frazier all the way. Jeffries was busted up so badly by James J Corbett in their first fight that the ring doctor considered stopping it. That was back when fights were allowed to continue a lot longer than the modern era. Fitzsimmons was also tattooing Jeffries and had his face messed up beyond recognition. Only Jeffries' Chuvalo-like chin, stamina, strength and durability made him come out victorious.

I see Frazier systematically taking Jeff apart and the referee or ring doc stopping the carnage around the 8th or 9th round. If a smaller, less talented guy like Tom Sharkey could could Jeff so many problems just think what a bigger, stronger, quicker fighter with modern skills like Frazier would do.

The fact that this is under modern rules tips the ballence towards Frazier somewhat. If the fight was in Jeffries era he would own Frazier in the clinches Foreman style.

Fraziers workrate combined with the fact that Jeffries took his oponents apart systematicaly make it likley that likley that Frazier would win on the cards over 15 rounds if it went the distance. Jeffries would need to work for a knockout inside the distance here.

He has the tools on paper but can he adapt?

He also stopped the ultra durable Jerry Quarry on his feet, twice.

Really, under modern rules Joe's going to bust him up bad enough to get him stopped within that time.

Jeffries was not a fighter like Chuvalo or even Quarry.

He had reflexes like a cat and prety good defense. Defensivley he could theoreticaly be compared to Frazier.

    Just talking about the durability.

Joe didn't need to bowl you over to destroy your face.

Chuvalo still has a steel plate in his face to keep his eye in his head because of Joe.

    This is verry true.

Frazier could smash anybody he could hit.

Many people think of Jeffries as a lumbering oaf who won fights on durability. This is not the case. He was cat quick for a man of 220 lbs and had reflexes like a rattlesnake. He also had an uncanny ability to judge distances often making an oponent miss by inches just pulling his head back.

There are more variables in this fight than many people here think.
