This fight was mooted during Jeffries tour of the UK and would of course have been meaningless then.

Would it have been an interesting fight in Mitchells prime?

To make things more interesting lets say that it is the Jeffries who won the title from Bob Fitzsimmons.

I really dont see what sort of a chance Charlie Mitchell has in this fight. If the greatest Middleweight ever (albeit an older version) could not beat Jeffries, i dont think Mitchell has any chance. Mitchell was outclassed by Sullivan under Queensberry rules and i think Jeffries would give him similar problems. Under LPR rules though, it might be a slightly different story, although i dont think so, and i can see a repeat of Mitchell ducking for cover like he did with John L.

By the way, did you know that Jeffries was openly pursuead for a fight around 1905 by the reigning LPR Champion, but he turned the fight down, and retired despite it potentitially being the biggest fight on the horizon for him and probably his biggest money maker outside of Johnson.

I don't understand. Mitchell was already retired by the time Jeffries dethroned Fitzsimmons, and was certainly in no position to be fighting a superior version of his conqueror John L. At any stage of his career for that matter. If Fitz couldn't do it, Mitchell most certainly couldn't.

Edit: Missed the bit about it being a prime Mitchell. Still, the point stands.

Interesting offer. Mitchell would have no chance to win though.

I did read that Jeffries was thinking about fighting Aussie Billy Lang post 1905.
