Fitz nearly killed Ruhlin and he one punch ko'd Sharkey twice.Jeffries was undoubtedly a solid hitter but not in Fitz's, Maher's, or Sullivan's class
It can be incredibly difficult to judge fighters from different eras, but these two guys were both born in the year 1875, so...
It is too early to weigh in on Ortiz. he has shown potential, but, has fought very few live bodies. And, even if Ortiz isn't older than his stated age of 38, he is running out of time.
I'm pretty sure Ortiz is 47 years old. And that Jeffries would take him out after taking some punishment. I think Wilder will end him within 5 too.
Well he's the right age to be an acceptable opponent for Jeffries. Seriously Ortiz hasn't done anything to set me alight who has he beat?
Ortiz is a guy who clearly gets his reputation from the manner in which he beats his opponents, moreso than who the opponents themselves are. Beating fighters in a better fashion than your higher rated peers is always a good start. He definitely has something special about him, who you combine his size, with his power, and his ring IQ. But with a prime, live athlete like Jeffries, for 15 rounds? I'm not sure how someone who could very well be 47 years old, would have the mobility, stamina, pace, or reflexes to defeat a fighter like Jim Jeffries.
Jeffries by KO. Proven atg chin/stamina and proven against atg heavyweights. Ortiz will gas and when he does Jeffries would go in for the slaughter.
Jeffries has zero experience against athlete/boxers of Ortiz's level. Luis is not some tough potato eater off the docks. Luis out-dudes him.
What all time great fighters, who would be deemed heavyweights today and who were anywhere near their primes, test Jeffries? Oh, Johnson. That's right.
Exactly and with Fitz we are still talking a 167lb man there is only so much power a middleweight can generate and Jeff couldn't duplicate the damage or power how hard could he have hit...compared to other heavies?
Should we start the thread where drunk, old Peter Jackson or that rip-snorting face first midget Sharkey or old @ss lightheavy Fitz or old @ss amateur boxer Corbett matches Jennings? Do we really want to see where that goes? Or will their lame defense be "they hung pretty well with Jeffries and HE was great!"
