i was rewatching the pac-cotto fight again earlier but is it just me or does it seem like Jim Lampley was going for cotto or at least against pacquiao in the fight. If you watch the first half of the fight when it was still a bit competitive he was comin off a bit too excited about cotto punches and a bit nonchalant about pacquiao's. For example when pacquiao knocked down cotto for the 2nd time in round 4, dont you guys think that that call could've been a bit better for that moment? compare it to the first jab cotto landed on pac in the 1st round and you'd think Lampley just had an orgasm by the way he reacted with his call. i dont know, just an observation, what do you guys think?
I think Lampley is pro-Cotto and pro-Pacquiao but more pro-Cotto than he is pro-Pacquiao. Which is okay since Steward hates Pac.
Exactly, I was thinking the exact same thing. He was going nuts every time Cotto landed a jab but ignoring to call a lot of clean shots from Pac. Was definitely biased in the call that's for sure. I'm a bit over the HBO commentary team to be honest, . . . watch the Sky British telecast instead. Lampley's call in the Pac-Hatton call was just appalling. Completely missed the first KD, and seemed to be asleep towards the end aswell.
It just wasnt Lampley, when the fight started it seemed like all 3 of them were rooting for Cotto even Merchant. By round 3 Steward jumped ship and was rooting for Pacquiao, Merchant became a ******* again at the end of round 5 and Lampley gave up on Cotto at about round 7.
Lampley loves Cotto. Probably his favorite active fighter. You can see he was about to cry when Margarito stopped him.
It was sickening, to be honest. Lampley's bias is the most transparent in the sport, and it's wasn't anything personal against Manny, it's that he has such an unrelenting manlove for Cotto he can't hide it. Must be his waxed eyebrows.
Doubt it. The reasons why he was getting excited was because it was a one sided fight so of course he is gonna shout when Pac's head gets snapped back off of a jab. Pacman was a huge favorite to begin with so they gotta make it interesting somehow.
Bottom line is they all expected Cotto to roll and their commentary was biased towards a Cotto win. When it was evident that this was not going to happen, they all changed their tune. This happened at different stages for the announcers as they went from denial to acceptance.
It's not bias just the result of Pac being so dominate in his last three fights. Hardly anybody thought they would be this onesided.
