His voice and antics are good, but he knows **** about boxing, he call "missing" punches, and cheers his fighter...pathetic... I still remember his stupid comment on the Angulo vs Tsurkan fight... "Go down, go down, save yourself", ****in´ idiot.
He is the best blow by blow guy in the business. Very professional and excellent at what he does. Why don't you try commentating for 40 years and see if you don't make a mistake here and there
Gus Johnson is 100x better, a lot of feeling and excitement in his words, check the Salido vs Lopez´s round 5, wow, amazing..."JUANMA, JUANMA, SALIDO, WOBBBBBBBLY"
His ex-wife went on record to say he never hit her and she can't imagine him being an abuser or something like that, if I remember correctly. :conf
Lamps pretty good, biased a little more than I would like to see, I like Tessatore on FNF better, that's just me. He never seems biased, though I may be missing it. It seems all great announcers have a little bias in them, Dunphy?? Great announcer, certainly showed some bias at times, like in Frazier-Ali I, I thought Joe was winning the majority of the rounds stealing a lot of them with that vicious left hook at the end, but if you listen to Dunphy you might have thought otherwise. That was a great fight!
saw lamps in the wing that heads towards the grand garden arena at like 3 pm before pac/hatton....he was fully dressed and had a man walking with him and briefing him.....i yelled "lamps"...he turned and smiled...i said " can i get a quick pic"....he looked at me with a smile....was thinking about it...and goes "uuhhhhh......no".....was pretty funny actually....great story...glad i was with some friends for that one
Gus Johnson is the best commentator in any sport, not just boxing. To compare anyone to him just isn't fair.
