I'm normally not into the silly "he won the event" arguements, but I do appreciate when someone on the broadcast, Merchant, Lampely, or whoever, literally states that a boxer "won the event." It leaves little room for debate. Aside from you folks who argue about whether someone won an event or not... how many times have you heard someone from the HBO crew literally state that a particular boxer "won the event?" of course there was... Vitali Klitschko against Lennox Lewis Erik Morales against Marcos Maidana last night ...who else, and post vids for proof if necessary...
"Winning the event" is extremely subjective. Im sure there are Maidana fans out there who would disagree. Its just not quantifyable. Maidana didn't do as well as expected. Morales did much better than expected. Its as simple as that. But Maidana won the fight fair and square. He was just too young and able to keep up a higher workrate than the older guy. I hate all this **** about Vitali Klitschko "winning the event". He did better than expected but wasn't able to finish the fight. Simple. I thought Morales did enough to just nick it, by the way!
Far from being subjective & unquantifiable event wins are often far more conclusive than the actual result. Everyone one knows who the real winner was in this fight. Morales EVT12 Maidana
Morales won the fight, he won as atleast half as many rounds and got tougher shots in. i would however like to see it again for it was a close fight, a second viewing is something we all should do no matter what reason
No they're not! It's completely based on opinion whereas the actual result is a black and white fact!
Hpw did Solis win it ? He showed he can box but as soon as he got punched, he went odwn. The crowd was seriously pissed that the fight ended with a grazing punch.
I'm sorry but I have to disagree there. The actual result of that fight is based on the collective opinions of 3 ringside judges. Do you think that MD is an adequate description of that fight? Morales EVT12 Maidana is how I'll remember that fight & a great fight it was.
While the actual quote is subjective in the sense that you cannot carry it from fight to fight with the same meaning, it's pretty clear what Lampley is saying.
