    Why does Lampley constantly choose to mispronounce the Spanish name name Diaz by constantly emphasizing it as Di-ASS, Di-ASS, Di-ASS.

    Obviously He doesn't do that with the names Douglas or Thomas by saying Dug-lASSS or Thom-Ass in that obscene manner. So it definitely isn't a speech impediment.

    The other announcers try to indicate that he is wrong by saying it right without that emphasis on the ASS part that he is so fond of but he chooses to totally ignore them and persists. I guess he gets such a big kick out of it that he just has to.

    BTE
    It does affect my viewing enjoyment of a boxing match since every single time he lets loose with that idiotic sound I wince and have to wonder about why he is doing it and why he is being allowed to do it. Especially since that pronunciation is used by racists and bigots against Latinos with that surname for the purpose of mockery and insult.

    Of course if you would call him Jime Lump Lay he would vehemently object.

    Very unprofessional bad habit. IMHO

    Lampley should call you a DI-ASS for doing this imbecilic thread.

    As a professional announcer he has a certain responsibility to the viewers and fans. That you disagree is really irrelevant. Also, if I don't like a thread title I ignore it and move on. I don't moronically waste my time saying that I don't like it. If indeed I stupidly had some serious racist issue with it, then I would ***** about it to a moderator or administrator to get it removed. Telling the poster isn't going to get that done.

    You know what annoys the **** out of me? B-Hop repeatedly calling Kovalev, Kovaloff and calling Golovkin, Goloffkin, do you see me making a silly thread about it? I also hate it when people say ramped up instead of amped up, maybe I should do a thread about it in the Lounge.:lol:

    Lampley isn't being racist, he just can't say certain names properly, just like Hopkins.

    Lampley is American, not Spanish. He pronounces words with an American accent. There's nothing worse than Americans putting on a Spanish accent to pronounce certain words, but not others. It's ridiculous. They don't do it with any other language. They don't pronounce baguette with a thick French accent, yet they'll pronounce Marquez like they grew up in Mexico City.

    I haven't heard a single American in boxing pronouncing Kovalev's last name right to be honest.

    The Irish surname Mahoney if pronounced slightly wrong in Spanish means turd. So Spanish speakers make sure to avoid giving it that slight twist when pronouncing it for the sake of common decency.

    Mohoneh = Turds in Spaniish

    Would you find it strange that an Irish person listening to that pronunciation would offer a correction?
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

    The other announcers are American as well and they are pronouncing it right. The very fact that if you pronounce a name the wrong way so that it sounds indecent in English should give a person pause.

    When English names are mispronounced English speaking people will offer a correction and a suggestion and if the pronunciation is indecent then the American will definitively protest. Please grant other people the same right.
