HBO's commentary that night has a lot to do with all the negative backlash towards Williams. They really layed it on him thick and people who are easily manipulated by such things just hopped on the wagon and are going overboard with the Williams hate-fest. Honestly, I've seen worse fighters and much more shot fighters than Williams and no one is shouting off the roof tops telling those guys to retire. Like you said, people need to calm the **** down.
Drama queen, sports media bitches are great at telling athletes (especially fighters) what to do with their lives. Even when they do make some sense, it just rubs me the wrong way when I see some schrieky little *****, who cannot break an agg in a food fight taking someone to task over how they prepare/perforn in an actual fight!
Williams is saying that **** about not changing anything because his ass wipe trainer is putting it in his head. How can you watch your fighter take that much punishment from one simple ass punch that can easily be avoided and do nothing. Thats pre meditated irresponsibility and that worthless fool needs to be banned from boxing.
First off, Stephen A Smith is annoying as hell. Second off....is Paul really slurring his speech? I hadn't listened to him talk since getting KO'd by Sergio.
I agree, why not discuss the recent bull**** decisionsns in boxing. Guy had absolutely no right to tell a pro what to do? and certainly not in that tone or cadence WTF?
What I just noticed is how we as fans criticize a boring fighter but when a guy like Williams who has always been about going to war loses its time for him to retire. I just realized the only reason they are talking about him is because MLB is on its all-star break, NBA and NHL are in the off season, and NFL is on hiatus. It is women's soccer and nothing else really.
Williams knows all he has to do is stay on his feet and his personal criminal judges will give him gift after gift! Lara beat the crap out of him in a one-sided fight!
I don't think he is. The interview before the fight with Max he was fine, after the fight he was a bit hard to understand because his face and lips were swollen, but I don't think he is slurring. Not after just one fight. This dude talking was just overreacting....if Paul does keep fighting and keep eating punches like that, well, then he will start slurring.
He isn't shot, he was just overrated to begin with. The only thing that has been exposed is the lack of technical training in his camp.
My sentiments, exactly. I stopped listening to the HBO commentary a long time ago. Too much of their coverage is about their opinions and not what is going on in the ring. If they focused on the ACTION, the sport would be doing a lot better. Instead, we have to listen to 3 or 4 guys trying to out-analyze each other. They should focus on the action during the rounds and express their opinions in between.
Paul Williams was never that good, All he had is height and reach and he doesnt use that properly. He doesn't throw his punches properly. A bunch of slapping arm punches. Kind of shows how overrated Sergio Martinez is and we all know why he is popular. Well the intelligent people here do.
I stopped paying attention to Stephen Smith a long time ago. I suggest real boxing fans do the same, he's not a knowledgable..............I hate when people on this site disrespect fighters................I really hate when guys like Smith disrespect athletes.
