I like Jim. Don't always agree with what he's saying, but I'm so used to the 'bang on the chen' type stuff that I miss it when he's not commentating. Him and Darke were the best duo. Halling is the worst for me. I read/heard something that I can't quite remember that made me think that he actually does put the work in and knows his stuff, but you'd never be able to tell that from his commentary. Generalises a whole fight based off whatever occurred in the previous 30 seconds.
I look mentally ill when I watch Sky and Mr Watt is commentating... I start arguing with him and shout obscenities at the TV when I see his ridiculas score cards. that said I like old Jim and his words of wisdom that are basically the same in every fight.
I think Jim Watt is a top boxing analyist, he talks sense. Sky need to get Ritchie Woodhall and Duke McKenzie involved on Ringside. They both have great knowledge, speak well and say it like it is. Im sorry nothing against Johnny Nelson but he just isnt cut out for Tv
Johnny seems ok when he's asked to do stuff that isnt rigid or scripted, he was alright doing the Khan Phillippines bit and the trip to see Bute, but he's a disaster in the studio and cannot read an autocue to save his life. Although Adam Smiths super creepy homo BBC worshipping *** gaze could be putting him off
I'd agree with you on getting Woodhall and McKenzie involved more and agree to an extent about Nelson. Don't think presenting is his thing; how many times have we heard folk complaining about his lack of reading skills when it comes to the auto-cue? He's even started ripping himself for it. I do still think he should have a place in the studio on fight night, when he gets asked questions he always answers them well and isn't fased when put on the spot. I like him.
McCrory's like a fascist on there; contemptuous towards most foreign fighters, with a few superstar exceptions.
Watt can have an ok fight but then throws in too many appalling commentaries and has done throughout his career. I'm assuming the ones on this thread saying what a great commentator he is must have listened to the Matthews-Rees fight on the weekend with the sound off
Johnny Nelson annoys me more, he just picked his mates to win and refuses to break down how they could possibly lose.
I like it when he gets excited when someone ships a big shot and is hurt. His passion for the sport is genuine.
Watt would make a great pundit. Him and Nelson would be a solid pundity team. Get McGuigan back on the mike, he was always good.
Jim Watts a fantastic commentatory end of. He has the big time fight voice, which is a natural talent....Ive heard commentators on boxnation and they sound flat and dull, boring. Not Jim hes excitable and passionate, with alot of knowledge to boot.....Plus i met him at Froch Bute fight, very nice approachable man.:good
