This sounds interesting. You know Bivins very underated!! What are your thoughts I consider you a expert!!!THANKS>:hi:
On both men`s best day I`d go with Quarry. He was the naturally bigger man, packed a bigger punch and with his counter punching style my guess is he would outbox Jimmy en route to a points win or late TKO. Jerry when he had his head screwed on straight and came in focused was some fighter, he certainly was a better boxer than Bivins and would have showed his superiority over him had they met and I say this as someone who has the utmost respect for Bivins and his abilitys as a fighter.
Im big Quarry fan,saw85% his fights forget please Jimmy Ellisatsch, Raging Bull was Bivins a bad boxer???:thumbsup
Ray, Not at all, in fact he was a very good boxer-puncher in fact, I just think Jerry at his best would have been too strong and accurate for Jimmy to overcome. Have you seen any footage of Bivins at all? If you haven`t, send me a pm.
Thanks Raging Bull, your a pretty good talent judge ,More importantly NICE GUY!!! I just remembered Ive got a tape of him plus records on Cleveland greats ..Harry Arroyo,Ray Mancini, I think Bivins near top... I should say Ohio greats!!! Im hoping Pavlik regains RING form hes a real gentleman.:hi:
Thanks man, according to someone else however I`m a greedy *******, glad to see you don`t think so. Speaking of Pavlik, I like the guy too but I doubt he gets past Abraham if and when they do meet, stylewise that one is all wrong for Kelly. :good
I think Bivins would be stronger than Quarry in close, where it mattered. Your thoughts RB and others?
Bull thanks,By the way isnt that a pic of ONE of all time faves Joe Harrison AKA Henry Hank. I was 10 when I saw him GREAT DickTiger mix it up. He had a son was Muslim was boxing. Wasnt that him ran into ring when Liston kod Floyd fight 1 or 2???I was sad to hear him passing. Where does pic come from?? Thanks:hi:
I disagree, Jerry was one very strong and physically powerful man, he`d outmuscle Jimmy in close. But it wouldn`t matter really as Jerry wouldn`t be looking to make this an inside fight, he`s got the legs and boxing skills to keep this guy at arm`s lenght and counterpunch his way to victory. Jimmy ain`t just gonna walk down Jerry without worrying about the incoming, Quarry could bang really friggin hard and Bivins would be wary of getting tagged too often, he would fight more conservatively and end up losing a decision more than likely.
Ray, Yes that is indeed the one and only Henry Hank aka Joe Harrison, one of my favourite fighters as well. I`ve got that Tiger fight on tape among others and what a fight it was! One of the most furiously contested and hard fought battles ever waged between middleweights that one was, and while Hank acquitted himself well in ever round Tiger still won almost every round outright, definately one of his best and most complete performances over a hardhitting and dead game opponent. As for the picture I got it from a friend of mine who has a collection of literally thousands and thousands of pictures as well as old fight magazines of all kinds and whatnot, he`s been gathering this stuff for over 50 years and has been involved in the fight game for almost as long as well, and he was and still is kind enough to send me these photos among other things.
I know you to be a gentleman and true student of Pugilism. I would give Quarry a slight edge ,if he fights the fight he is capable of.
Quarry would win. Bivins had issues with pressure fighters, and lacked a good punch. Agreed, if Quarry is focused, this is his fight to lose.
