Been reading about the erratic yet sometimes brilliant Carter. How would he do on one of his "on" nights, with the lightweight title at stake vs the always entertaining Ray Boom Boom Mancini.
I think that damned peanut farmer can win a decision. He looked good against salas and other guys who come to him.
he was. i was first drawn in by his inconsistency. he and joe brown both fascinated me for their records and flashes of brilliance. haven't seen enough of either to judge their styles but interesting (and occasionally great) fighters
I watched Carter fight live in the early '50s (Aragon, Salas and others) I also saw Mancini live....I pick Carter by UD in a 12 rounder, by late round KO in a 15 rounder

Carter was brilliant when he wanted to be. H was considered a Carbo controlled fighter by the boxing world back in his time.
