    Fellas,

In a time machine, who wins in a 15 rounder with 10 ounce gloves and inside a 20 X 20 ring if we were to match Jimmy Ellis of 1968 going up against Michael Spinks of 1987 on HBO / Showtime???

Ellis has recently beaten "Leotis Martin, Bonavena, Quarry & Patterson."

Spinks has recent wins over "Larry Holmes, Stefan Tangstad and Gerry Cooney."

Who wins inside the time machine?:huh

Okay, I do like Ellis, but I'm not sure he could go 30 rds with Holmes like Spinks did in 1985 and '86.... Especially the version of Holmes who came to fight in 1986....... HMMMM!

Maybe , but after watching Spinks fight and one or two fights by Ellis (in which he lost) I believe Ellis would have beaten Spinks . Ellis fought better than Holmes , he simply had neither one of Holmes' size advantage and poor weak opposition.
Spinks was no Frazier , Ali nor even Shavers (whom was thumbed by Holmes in his poor stoppage loss to him) .
Ellis was clearly a better fighter than Holmes (in the P4P sense)
But an inferior Heavyweight (in the H2H sense) .

    Jinx Spinks by close decision.

I like his cagey, awkward boxing & still blisteringly fast combination-punching at Heavyweight.

I'm leaning towards Spinks as well. The man had savvy, and as you say, was awkward. My guess it that this results in a very close and probably ugly decision.

True that Ellis was a 190 to 205 pounder much longer than Spinks was, but aside from good yrs between 1967-1969, Ellis lost many of his big fights of the 1970s...

  10. I'm afraid tht cooper as a much harder hitter then both of the men wud stop,
    Ellis and Spinks.
Ellis wud win 1 decision in spinks.

How about Henry Cooper vs. Mike Tyson? :think

  12. Cooper wud have,
his "moments." Tyson, a savage hitter, wud cut Henry up,
Cooper, I'm afraid wud lose inthe end,
Tyson, more proven, stronger, but if Cooper make it past "5" rnd's,
Cooper might have 1 shot w/ the hayemaker hook.

I think '87 Spinks at his 208 pounds could hang and handle dude's like "Leo Martin, Oscar Bonny, Jerry Quarry and Floyd Patty" on fairly even terms... Spinks would be tuff for all...

I think Spinks and Ellis would be very interesting... Too hard to hit the nail on the head there...

jerry quarry was a very fast counter puncher, a very solid AND NATURAL 200 pounder, probably he would own spinks any day of the week, by tko or ud. floyd patterson would play with spinks, bonavena was too strong for him, spinks might beat martin.
