I had nothing but admiration for Jimmy Ellis as he advanced through that tournament in the 60's...I was most impressed at how he dealt with Bonavena, decking the bull 3 times (yes, three times),...then in that super intelligent brand of boxing he used to decision Quarry over 15 rounds...not falling prey to..i.e.,...getting suckered into following the counter punching Quarry into a corner...he always backed off and motioned Jerry to the center of the ring. I actually enjoyed and admired that smart strategy.

No way is Quarry overrated he beat 8 ranked contenders by the WBA AND RING. Few Champions in any division do that! 4 of them he knocked out, (2 -ranked #1). Bonavena never knocked out anyone in the top ten at the time (4 victories, Chuvalo (5) Ellis (6). No way is Quarry overrated for the Competetion he took on.

I think you have to rate Ellis, Quarry, and Patterson very close. Both on H2H and resume.
