This is true. My point is ellis was not what he was after the patterson fight. he was posibly ripe at that time since hed got through tough fights back to back with martin, bonavena, quary and patterson. where as Cooper was enjoying the big fish in a small pond party in london.
I'd say that Ellis was as good as he ever was for the first Joe Frazier fight, unfortunately he was in there with Frazier, not Cooper.
Cooper was washing down the drain by circa--1970........... Ellis was peaked in the late 60s........ Ellis out-points Cooper in '69......... MR.BILL
I'm guessing you may be a bit younger than me. Perhaps I'm not being completely fair but our boxing gang started liking Bugner ever since we saw his first fight with Ali in early 73. Had all the tools, everything. By the time his big ''no-show'' came in the Ali rematch, we had all collectively had it with him! Not to mention his subsequent jabs at Cooper from afar years later. And I'll stand by my statement that his wins against name opponents were all against either: 1) contenders past their prime 2) wannabes On topic, I think Ellis, in early 69, would stop Cooper on cuts mid-rounds...
