Someone repled on this forum saying Ellis was a blown up middle so then could he have fought at cruier, if so could he have beaten any or all of the top 10 cruisers of all-time? I feel Ellis had the speed of a cruisser and would have beat most of them at that weight, I feel Usyk would have beaten him though, QI.
He'd have a GREAT chance. Jimmy Ellis had the skills and speed on his side. People forget he had to fight killers in his career. What about Evander @mark ant ? He may have a better chance against Usyk.
Ellis has wins over Patterson, Bonavena, Chuvalo, Quarry, Leotis Martin. At his best a top ten contender in the HW division imo. So I think he would fair just well against most
Ellis does well, probably loses a close one to Holyfield and Usyk but he has a chance even in those. Ellis vs Toney would be a good contest. I think Ellis beats everyone else in the last 30 years. Now if you mean "all time" to include boxers who were big enough to be cruisers before the division existed, Ellis loses to Marciano, Louios, probably loses close ones to Charles and Walcott. But he has a chance in alot of those fights.
The top 10 includes: Usyk, Holyfield, Gomez, Huck, Briedis, Lebedev, Gassiev &; and others like Toney, Haye and Qawi. Ellis would do decently against the lower tier guys, but guys like Usyk, Holy, Gomez & Briedis would win decisively IMO. Jirov & Mormeck would be awful for him too.
I think Usyk is better fundamentally than Holy was but that Ellis v Holy would have been a great fight.
