    and to a lot of fighters, Ellis wouldn't have been more than a contender either, rather than a paper champion who won a belt in an elimination tournament.

    i'm not denying he was a minor titlist, though paper champ is harsh.

    However he won the world title, something browne has not done the equivalent of.

    I would favor Ellis over Browne as would most people. Only caveat is that he's a huge dude who hits very hard. I've always applauded Ellis for beating that string of contenders to win that vacant title.. There were some who felt he got beat by patterson later though. Browne may be the only one I'd give him the edge against today. Can't see him overcoming Fury, Wilder or Joshua.
