The Patterson that fought Bonavena and Ali (II) fights the Ellis who fought Chuvalo. 12 rounds. How's it go?

I never saw their first fight but from what little I’ve read about it, apparently many of the spectators disapproved of the decision and felt Patterson was robbed. Now had they fought again a couple years later, would Floyd still have had enough left to outdo Ellis or was his age catching up to him ? Im not entirely sure TBH.

The AP had it 7-4-4 Patterson. Eight ringside sportswriters on behalf of the United Press International. Of them six scored the fight for Patterson and only two for Ellis.

Patterson was robbed, but Ellis had a broken nose since round 1 or 2, so that makes since. I'm just thinking Ellis declined after Chuvalo, and Patterson looking not half bad vs. Bonavena and Ali

Ellis' 1st round style was made for Patterson, who had a propensity for going down early. Ellis would get tired around the time Floyd starts coming on, it could be a real pier-sixer...

Some color highlights from Ellis-Chuvalo. Jimmy still looked good and was still ranked when Shavers stopped him in 73. (Jimmy's right hand put a pretty huge knot on the side of Chuvalo's head.)

I think Ellis wins a decision over Patterson in '72, but it's a good scrap.

tbh, as sharp as Patterson looked in the Ellis fight, I don't think Patterson would have beat Ellis had it not been for the broken nose.

well, now that I think about it, Floyd's stamina was good, Ellis' was questionable. But Floyd was still very vulnerable to knockdowns early on (not that I think Ellis would or could knock out Floyd). However, I still think Ellis grabs the '72 scrap after a lot of see-sawing.

I remember the Jimmy Ellis vs Floyd Patterson WBA Title fight on Sept 14 1968, in Sweden. I thought that Floyd did enough to win that bout, and yes he broke Jimmy's nose. In 1972, Floyd leaves no doubt after his victory over Oscar Bonavena on Feb 14 1972. Floyd by UD.

what if it only goes ten? Floyd takes a while to get off, Jimmy does not. Even if Floyd can rally well in the last rounds, Ellis might have piled up too many points
