I’m skeptical about Dokes outboxing Ellis. Dokes was taken to a draw against Ocasio and Weaver, the latter of which was contested as a win for Weaver. Tex Cobb fought Him on very close terms too. Honestly if I were to pick a version of Dokes to beat Ellis it would probably be the 1988-1990 one who was heavier, stronger and set down on his punches more. Going for the knockout might better serve Michael Dokes when facing Jimmy Ellis
Snooze-a-thon. Dokes has trouble really getting to Ellis, and Ellis half the time looks glad of it. They mutually consent to more hugging than a honeymoon after Dokes eats Ellis' right a few too many times and Ellis gets badly staggered twice by Dokes' snappy ass left hook. Dokes wins a UD but all of the judges' scores are close . Dokes was more aggressive, and ultimately Ellis did take the harder punches.
