I rate Ellis higher than most rate him, but I also don’t agree that mercer is overrated, not significantly at least, he has some subpar performances, but he was inconsistent, but if you’re taking him at his very best, I don’t think he’s overrated. Who wins this matchup?
I've got Jimmy on points. Unless he does something silly and get caught like Damiani, he gets the win.
I think Ellis is capable of out boxing Mercer he has good movement/speed and outboxed notable contenders like Quarry, Bonavena, Martin, Chuvalo. Mercer has slow feet and would have alot of trouble catching up to Ellis. But there is a chance Mercer could catch up to Ellis at some point in the fight and knock him spark out but I do give Ellis the edge here based on styles. See folks this is the difference why I might favour the smaller man in Ellis in this case based on styles I'm not biased at all.
