According to what I've read and seen on the limited film, McVey was neither an attacker nor technician of anything near Louis' ability. He was a crude left handed fighter who moved back and forth with little science.

Louis was a physical phenomenon but they did come brighter ... he did not think fast on his feet ... the reason he was so amazing in rematches was that he had months to be reprogrammed to fight a more effective strategy , a skill set that was far more limited during an actual bout ... I simply see Johnson completely throwing him off his game and dicing him up ..

Almost no one outslugs Louis .. I see him KOing Dempsey, Marciano, Liston, Foreman, anyone of them except maybe a prime TYson but I can see him outboxed by a few guys and Johnson would be one ..

I recall some recently posted link where Johnston and Dan Morgan gave their ATHvyWt top tens; Johnston picked Johnson as greatest, Morgan picked Jeffries.

Looks like this article is part of a series.

Johnston picks Louis over these three; he's confident Louis would have beaten Jeffries at Jim's best, but says it would have been a tough fight.

Johnston felt Willard was a shade better than Carnera.

Johnston picks Sullivan to undoubtedly defeat Louis. Sullivan too rugged and would have worn Louis out.

Said Dempsey and Louis would wear out after terrific start, "no decision".
