I was really looking forward to this. As opposed to the 1st match which none of us got to view that much, we at least got to see several rounds from this match, and plenty of each of those rounds. We were blessed with a good fight.

    1. The Ross jab proved the edge at first, but McLarnin did a good job of consistently landing left and right hooks, and near the round's end, he had Ross groggier than he initially appeared. McLarnin.
    2. A slugfest ensued early on. The deciding factor was again in McLarnin's strong left hooks. For what it's worth, McLarnin did some nifty shoulder feinting here. McLarnin.
    4. Close, hard round, but still, McLarnin generally was beating Ross to the punch. McLarnin.
    6. Bruising, punishing round all the way. McLarnin.
    8. McLarnin.
    9. Another fast-paced round. McLarnin.
    10. McLarnin begins to jab much more than before in this entire fight. It's a first. The second first is when Ross begins to get the better of some of the wildest exchanges of the match. A third first is who I scored the round for: Ross.
    12. An ever more hectic, sloppy slugfest. Ross.
    15. It was clear both wanted the round and both were giving of all their resources to take it. Even.

My assessment of the fight, aside from the action, is that early on Ross humored McLarnin into a brawl, and quickly found out he couldn't out-brawl McLarnin, but after that could not take back the fight. I have to commend Ross for taking his fate like a man and sticking with McLarnin all the way, and even coming on very well, especially near the end. I do think it's true that Ross is a very mechanical, steady type of fighter who keeps a great pace going, but I think he gained valuable experience here.

    Verdict: Good fight. See it.

Jimmy McLarnin was a superb boxer/fighter, known for beating all the Jewish fighters. He was Great!

Couple of observations, McLarnin has no defense to speak of, and didn't know Ross weighed 140lbs ! keep well.

I've got a card for Ross-McLarnin 3 but not 2 (although I've seen it). Looking forward to seeing your card for that one. I'll post mine in your thread when it's ready. Really enjoying this series, William.

Yeah, I am too. I know that one is the most fully recorded, and I'm really looking forward to the rubber match. It should be very good.

Great and interesting fight. My scoring would be similar to referee Donovan's. He had it 10-5 for McLarnin. I thought McLarnin won what I watched by a decent margin. Ross was very elusive, but didn't seem to have much power. McLarnin was quick and hit harder. McLarnin looked impressive in this one.

McLarnin is a very interesting fighter the way he holds such a low guard and punches effectively out of it.
