Jimmy McLarnin is a guy who I never think gets enough credit for how good he was. A good solid boxer but a pretty cracking hitter, from interesting angles and in strange combinations. Good power, and pretty impressive functional strength and speed. Whaddaya think? He was good enough to win a decision over Lou Ambers right after Ambers beat Armstrong... At age 29. Predictions? :happy At the front handspring, then karate kick after the knockdown and before he resumes his assault. I knew I liked McLarnin, but he went up a couple notches for that. His accuracy with wide punches is also notable. The left-right-left he finishes him with is eye-opening. I suspect this would be a high contact and very physical fight. They're on the same level, in my opinion, and in a series, they'd both have victories over the other. I'll go with Armstrong by decision based on volume and pressure. I doubt either would knock the other out.
Really depends if McLarnin can hurt Armstrong. If he can he this will make Armstrong a bit more careful and then McLarnin can take a decision. If he can“t Armstrong simply will overwhelm, outwork and outhustle him.
Also, Ambers lost to McLarnin right after dropping a decision to Eddie Cool, about 2 years before fighting Armstrong, and 3 years before beating him in the controversial rematch.
