Very good matchup. Two solid lightweights. I think I’m leaning towards Jimmy Paul but with no real conviction

The guy who Haugen beat vs the guy who O'Grady beat.

Yeah it would. I might go with Haugen on that one. Good counter puncher

I think that ironically, the conquerors of these two men, Kenty and Paul, are both sorely underrated here, especially O'Grady.

Didn’t O’Grady turn pro when he was like fifteen years old ?

I don't know whole alot about Sean O'Grady, i've only seen two of fights. The Kenty fight which he performed really well, and when he got dismantled by Andy Ganigan. But isn't his record mostly padded ? i think that's why some people may not rate him too highly. Although i'm not expert on his career just what i know from hearsay.

I would definitely agree Greg Haugen is underrated though.

I think Kenty at his best is a bit too active and fast for Paul and he gets by a few rocky moments to close out a fairly close decision.

Kenty is faster but Jimmy had tremendous power in his right hand and a better defense.
Kenty would start fast and Jimmy would finish him off late in the fight.

As noted, Sean turned pro when he was 15 years old. And fought frequently. I don't think not putting him in with killers until he physically matured a bit would have been responsible, so call it 'record padding' if you will. A lot of Latin American fighters with tons of fights didn't fight killers early in their careers.

And he did fight (and lose to) Danny Lopez when he was, I think, still 17.

He fought some journeyman and gatekeepers (Shig Fukiyama among them) and beat Arturo Leon, who was a respected contender/former title challenger, and Gonzalo Montellano.

He was definitely eating Jim Watt when he challenged for the lightweight crown but was cut on a deliberate butt (that should have been a DQ) in Scotland and outclassed Hilmer Kenty for the title. His biggest problems were with his dad, who made him give up the title and fight for the WAA (aka the WBO'Grady) title instead, which was made up, and his head was a mess when he fought Gannigan.

Sean was good, very good on his best days. His dad ruined him.

Both being Kronk's fighters, this one goes the distance. Jimmy did a bit more than Hilmer at the weight, so I say Paul SD Kenty.

Paul, was a more patient, methodical technician, as opposed to the faster, more mercurial Kenty. Both had 15 rounder experience and pretty good stamina...I think Paul's was slightly better, and that's the factor that helps me make a decision here..I think itn becomes sort of an attrition type bout, with Paul finishing stronger than Hilmer over the last 5 rounds to earn a close, somewhat grueling, yet knockdown free bout from back in the glorious 15 round days.
