Whats the Aussie Forums opinion of him.
Iwas little when he was around so never knew of him back then.
But was he well known over here, he fought he a fair bit. and fought some big names in the U.S defeating some good names too.
What did you all think of him back then?

Old enough to have been on free to air in some capacity. Can't remember against who?

Awesome physique along with some inconsistent performances led Mark 'Jacko' Jackson to say:

'Looks like Tarzan, fights like Jane'

Funny but unfair. He gave Chris Byrd a decent stoush in Bird's prime if I remeber correctly.

Saw Jimmy fight a few times at Festival Hall about 20 years ago. Exciting to watch, especially early in his career when he just clean KO'd guys.

His bouts with Craig Peterson were classics. In the first match-up in about round 7 Peterson jabbed and pounded Jimmy almost into submission for the entire 3 minutes, only for Jimmy to turn around the domination full circle on Peterson for the entire duration of the next round.

The two met twice. Peterson winning the vacant Aus title in the first war, and Thunder winning it back in the second.

Thumder's problem was his stamina. I enjoyed watching him fight years ago though.

I didn't see the Peterson fights first hand, but was alerted to them by Leon. Have since seen video of bout 1 and heard about bout 2. Great match-ups, as were some of his early US fights. The guy could seriously whack!

When he was an amatuer in NZ, he fought Henry Akinwande at Mt Smart Stadium outdoors in summer. After the 1st, with Jimmy (Peau as he was known back then) slipping all over the shop, he took his boots off. He burnt the soles off both his feet
