Jimmy Wilde beat A, who beat B.......... who beat X, who beat Primo Carnera.

I tried this brain teaser on another forum recently, and the best (shortest!) solution they came up with was this 9-man chain between the two:

Wilde > Joe Lynch > Eddie Wimler > Eddie Carver > Jimmy Belmont > Babe Risko > Teddy Yarosz > Lloyd Marshall > Ezzard Charles > Joe Louis > Carnera

So I thought it would be interesting to see, if anyone here can find an even shorter route for Wilde to "defeat" Carnera.

    Edit Clue:
Only 4 names are needed to form a chain between the two, where Wilde "beats" Carnera... and the last name is Larry Gains!

    So what we have is:
    Wilde > ? > ? > ? > Gains > Carnera.

Surely someone will now be able to fill in the missing 3 names?

Hmm... when I posted this question yesterday, I kind of half expected Henry to come up with some amazing 3-man solution, that would stun me yet again!

But now, a whole day later... nothing!

I would have thought, that at least some of you guys out there would find the idea of trying to beat the previous best (9-man) answer a fun challenge - but apparently this is not the case???

Ok, since no one wants to play, I might as well just tell you guys the answer... well almost, anyway. So I have added a clue, which just about gives the whole thing away.
