Wilde actually defines P4P and under that system should be number 1 All Time Great.

I personally don't like P4P, i perfer to compare boxers using the ' I am a better boxer at my weight than you are at your weight, scenario.
Therefore you would be comparing Wilde the Flyweight {his record and resume} against Sugar Ray Robinson the Welterweight.

Sugar Ray proberbly comes out on top using ' I am a better boxer at my weight than you are at your weight'.
Jimmy Wilde should come out on top using P4P, as he constantly beat bigger men,
infact he used to weigh in, in his street clothes.

Pundits, Forumites and the like can't have it all ways, either its P4P and Wilde is the All Time Greatest or at least in the top half dozen all time, and the modern day top Welsh fighter Joe Calzaghe is rightly down at 2 or 3 on the current list for active boxers.
Joe has spent nearly his whole career at 1 weight, only moving up for his last 2 fights,
Pacman on the other hand has been moving through the weights and winning, therefore in P4P terms Pacman is ranked higher, that being the case Jimmy Wilde should be viewed as a possible ATG #1.

If people perfer to look at boxers at their own weights then decide who is the best,
Sugar Ray and some of the other leading boxers would be above Jimmy Wilde, but Joe Calzaghe would be the current #1, as his record is excellent, Pacman on the other hand has suffered 3 defeats and 2 draws.

    So what is it -
Jimmy Wilde All Time Greatest ever boxer and Joe Calzaghe only 2nd or 3rd best active boxer or Jimmy Wilde only top 20 All Time and Joe Calzaghe #1 best current boxer in the World.

Like i said you cant have it all ways !

My take on it, i don't like p4p, i just judge boxers at their own particular weights,
therefore 'The Ghost with a Hammer in his Hand' is an All Time Great top 15 and Joe Calzaghe is currently the best boxer in the World.

Gene Tunney beats Jimmy Wilde easily.

    86 fights, 80 wins, 1 loss, 3 draws, 2 NC's.

That's one of the reasons why I rank him higher than Wilde.

    Game over.

Hard number crunching means very little.

Did he? That proves conclusively beyond all doubt that Wilde was better than Tunney, Robinson, Greb, Langford, Armstrong, or anyone else in history then. :good

Thats why this thread isn't titled Jimmy Wilde's record better than Gene Tunney's.

So as far as that point you made.

    Game over.

    Yet again you have failed.

Robinson is generally accepted to be the Greatest of All-Time (cue infantile denial by BFN1 :-().

So an attempt to use stats to prove that Wilde is better is a transparent attempt to say that Wilde is in fact the Greatest of All-Time.

I disproved this by using stats in the same fashion.

    I repeat: Game Over.

    :hi:

As pointed out by the original poster he made a clear definition between record/resume.
You are judging on resume, not record as defined by the poster.:patsch

Ohhh now I see. The title of this thread is Jimmy Wilde has a better record than Tunney!!!
Damn I could have sworn it says Robinson and not only that it purely talking about record not resume.

To show you how ridiculous your argment is:
Rocky Marciano and Joe Calzaghe BURY Tunney. No Loses, No draws.
Getting the hang of what this thread is about now?
    Not resume, record, percentages.
Now run along boy, that p4p 100 of yours needs work.....
