Already posted this on the Classic, what do my fellow British posters think of this matchup????

    At flyweight, who takes it?

    Both little British fighters.

Wilde has many more K.O's but from what I've seen Lynch seems to have more technique. He seems to slip punches with just a quick head movement and still be in range to throw a devastating blow back. he also uses the ring well, coming back off the ropse to land heavy artillery.

Of course, there is probably no 'prime' footage of Wilde available. Whilst he faced much bigger guys (and stopped them) I think Lynch probably has the best single win between them; Peter Kane. Only 19 but 44-0, renowned as a truly hard hitter, Lynch destroyed him.

Lynch has got about 50% K.O record, but it's clear he hit much harder than that indicates. Wilde however, as we all know had 99 stoppages and a lot of these came against larger opposition (if slightly dubious, though that may be due to incomplete records)

If we say 15 rounds we know that Lynch was still murderous late on, plus Wilde had been more than that, 20 rounds at times and still won.

Does The Mighty Atom split Lynch into particles? Or does Lynch put the chokes on Wilde?

Most of all who would win it on points? This is a distinct possibility as although both are known as scary hitters, they are also known for their durability in their primes.

Theres so little really known about Wilde its difficult to say. He was certainly a brutal puncher and knockout artist. I'd probably go with Lynch simply because hes got better skills, I always feel a boxer from a couple of decades ahead (especially early 20th century) has an advantage in that the style of boxing has progressed. If I knew more about Wilde (and I'd love to) it might be different but as it is Lynch UD although Wilde could always land a big punch and put paid to that.

I agree it's a shame there's no footage of Wilde. Would rather see Greb, mind.

I still prefer Wilde even though Lynch has the advantage of development in skills (slightly).

Lynch was a good boxer and defensive fighter for his time, but ultimately he still gets caught up in a lot of brawling, if you look its all hard, tough action. I feel like that always plays into the hands of Wilde because he punches harder, he's a smaller target, that is what he does. Over 15 and especially 20 rounds I think with the type of action I envisage the only guy that feels at home is Wilde.

Modern fighters could brawl with Wilde considering the change in weigh in regulations and tighter technique but I don't see any pre-modern fighters being able to sustain that kind of work against a prime version.

wilde wins by stoppage,i think lynch wins the first 2 rounds with his better boxing around the third lynch start`s to be less mobile and gets into a fight with wilde.wilde catches lynch heavily towards the end of the round lynch survives the round in the next round lynch gets back to boxing but a few rounds later gets drawn into a brawl and pays the price and gets ko`d around the 7th.

I'm surprised so many people picking Lynch to be stopped seeing as he was never stopped in his prime. Appreciate everyone's comments, GPater stop advertising in MY thread (which I believe I made a recent addition to by the way :good)

It's supposed that Wilde weighed between 100 and 108 pounds for his fights and mostly fought opponents who were perhaps up to a stone heavier.
Nowadays he could have moved up and down between 5 divisions. Also fighters have much better nutrition these days and can weigh in and bulk up hours before the fights.

How effective would Wilde be against the current champs who only do 12 rounds, have 24 hours to bulk up and fight a few times a year? Only with punchers gloves he would probably be even better.

I'd like to put an interesting point forward, Wilde may have been a world champion these days, with all the belts and all in a few weights. But I doubt if we transported the current fighters back to 1910-1916 that any of the alphabet champs would hack it. Not tough enough.

I was looking for the ref in the Wilde fight but could not see one! :think
