Who was, in your opinion, the better pure boxer/fighter, and out of the two, who do you rate higher on your p4p lists?
What do you know about Wilde stylistically Leeroy. I know nothing about him. I do know however that Pep was a master boxer both offensively and defensively. Given that I shade towards Pep.
I know more about Pep than I do Wilde. I just recently watched a short documentary on Calzaghe, and on it was mentioned Jimmy Wilde. I've always known of him, and read a little bit on him, but not so much to actually rate him, or his ability. That record is pretty impressive. I know a lot of classic boxing fans rate him highly, as I'm always seeing his name mentioned on p4p lists.
Pep is top 10 material, Wilde really isn't, but if you wanted to make a case for Wilde being higher you've started in the right place, their fight records. Wilde blasted out some much heavier men, and that carries weight in the pound for pound argument and that should carry weight in the pound for pound argument. Making a case for Wilde as the better fighter is near impossible, though, Pep was one of those sublimely skilled fighters who, like Jones, would rate highly even if he didn't do great business in the ring - and Pep was obviously much more active than Roy. That being the case, I think Wilde above Pep on any p4p list calls for serious justification. I have Pep at #8 and Wilde at #23.
