If you use P4P rankings Jimmy Wilde comes out at ATG #1 {at least top 6} and Joe Calzaghe comes out at either #2 or #3 of the active boxers.
If you just look at the boxers results at their own weights and then judge them Wilde would be a top 20 ATG and Calzaghe the #1 active boxer ?

I personally don't like P4P, i perfer to compare boxers using the ' I am a better boxer at my weight than you are at your weight, scenario.
Therefore you would be comparing Wilde the Flyweight {his record and resume} against Sugar Ray Robinson the Welterweight.

Sugar Ray proberbly comes out on top using ' I am a better boxer at my weight than you are at your weight'.
Jimmy Wilde should come out on top using P4P, as he constantly beat bigger men,
infact he used to weigh in, in his street clothes.

Pundits, Forumites and the like can't have it all ways, either its P4P and Wilde is the All Time Greatest or at least in the top half dozen all time, and the modern day top Welsh fighter Joe Calzaghe is rightly down at 2 or 3 on the current list for active boxers.
Joe has spent nearly his whole career at 1 weight, only moving up for his last 2 fights,
Pacman on the other hand has been moving through the weights and winning, therefore in P4P terms Pacman is ranked higher, that being the case Jimmy Wilde should be viewed as a possible ATG #1.

If people perfer to look at boxers at their own weights then decide who is the best,
Sugar Ray and some of the other leading boxers would be above Jimmy Wilde, but Joe Calzaghe would be the current #1, as his record is excellent, Pacman on the other hand has suffered 3 defeats and 2 draws.

    So what is it -
Jimmy Wilde All Time Greatest ever boxer and Joe Calzaghe only 2nd or 3rd best active boxer or Jimmy Wilde only top 20 All Time and Joe Calzaghe #1 best current boxer in the World.

Like i said you cant have it all ways !

My take on it, i don't like p4p, i just judge boxers at their own particular weights,
therefore 'The Ghost with a Hammer in his Hand' is an All Time Great top 15 and Joe Calzaghe is currently the best boxer in the World.

Might you be Welsh by any chance??

The premise of this post is pretty flimsy and insubstantial mate.

Jimmy Wilde was not as great at jumping weights as guys like Sam Langford and Barbados Joe Walcott, so that rules him out of being the ATG#1 if it was only weight-jumping that was being considered.

    But it isn't.

Wilde's resume is not strong enough to justify a top 20 ATG placing IMO. If you think it is, please list the names from his resume which make him worthy of this ranking, as I can't see it myself, not at all. I think Wilde is lucky to make a top 30.

And Joe Calzaghe being p4p#3 isn't only because he hasn't jumped weights as effectively as Pacquiao, it's because he hasn't fought enough great fighters.

The International Boxing Research Organisation is the whos who of boxing historians and writers and although they are mainly Americans they rank Jimmy Wilde as the 14th greatest ever boxer {Sept 2006 list}, they rank him higher than people of the caliber of Mickey Walker, Archie Moore. Rocky Marciano and Gene Tunney.

If Wilde was American would he be ranked higher ?

As regards your ranking of Wilde DINAMITA, your ranking is approximately twice as high as IBRO's.
The IBRO is the nearest thing we have to a definitive list, i am afraid you are way out of sink compared to the experts.

Fair enough mate, but I don't believe in basing my own rankings on those of other people. For me, there is absolutely no way that Jimmy Wilde deserves to be ranked above Mickey Walker or Archie Moore. JMO :good

Jimmy Wilde, while an all-time great, is not the greatest.

    However, Wilde > Calzaghe.

What i am pointing out heehoo is P4P, Wilde should do well {all time rankings} and Calzaghe not so well {current p4p rankings}.

Yet if you judge Wilde at his own weight, he does not do so well, Joe Calzaghe at his own weight does really well {never lost, fought for over a decade at super-middle undefeated}.

I am talking about Wilde in ATG terms and i am talking about Calzaghe in current ranking terms, obviously i am not comparing the two directly as Wilde is twice as good.
