Beat Foreman, wins title against Ali or Norton.

Would he have defended against Larry Holmes (or Leon Spinks?).

Yea, I think he would fight anybody. The better his opponent was, the better he fought. An in shape Young vs. Holmes would be a great matchup. Of course, I'd go with Jimmy winning, even though I think Larry is great

Young-Spinks would be a masterclass of subtlety from Young..and humiliation for Spinks. Holmes would be made to look as bad as he could be made to look...whether he won or lost.

If jimmy had beaten Muhammad for the title in a rematch of their '76 bout,a multi-million dollar third fight would have been on the cards before anything else.

A Young-Holmes fight would have been competitive, but a bit of a yawn to watch.

Spinks would do well to win two rounds.

Leon Spinks, gosh I cringe when I see his name mentioned in elite level matchups.

Young deserved to beat Ali by my cards anyways.

I see what you mean about Spinks. It was like he'd gatecrashed an exlusive party and everyone asked each other "How the hell did HE get in" ?

Interestingly,in the first Spinks-Ali fight,Leon proved to be quite a bit better than we thought he was,and at the same time, looked better than he ACTUALLY was !

the thing is though, Leon just beat a faded Ali, but no better than Young, Norton or Shavers before him. it's just that this time he got the nod.

Had any of those 3 got the decision they deserved Spinks would just be another unworthy challenger who got outclassed.

Difference being that even a faded Ali could still have beaten Spinks convincingly,as he proved later on in the year. At that point in time though,Shavers,Young and Norton were always going to be problematical.

yeah at the point Spinks and ALi faced off, I wouldn't put either in the top 4.

Very true.Lufcrazy. Up to,and including Manilla 1975,Ali was definitely the best heavyweight in the world. By the time of early '78,Holmes and Norton were.

Yeah I think when Young was beating Ali and Foreman he was the top man, then he lost to Norton who lost to Holmes.
