    Were legitimate?

By and large his draw with Shavers is seemingly considered bull****, so I'm curious...

What other Young close calls went against him, if any?

    His close loss to Page?

    The SD loss to Norton?

    The Ali fight?

I know Ocasio was involved in some crooked matches. What about their two fights?

    Thoughts, please.

    Young clearly outpointed Norton

    Norton: 4,6,7,12
    Young: 1,2,3,5,8,9,10,11,13,14!
    draw: 15

I felt that Young beat Norton by a narrow margin and Ali by a clear margin. Haven't seen the Shavers rematch, but by all accounts he deserved to win it. He got a lot of raw deals during his career, probably because he was not an exciting fighter for the mainstream fan.

I've seen the 15th round of Norton/Young on Youtube and I'd say Norton won that one.

No controversy at all in the Page fight. He beat Norton and i heard his training was appalling for Ocasio.

He lost his heart after the Norton fight; all his work subsequent to that fight he got by on with his skills only.
I had him winning a close one against Norton as well tho after seeing it live I went berserk when the decision was announced.
His style often made his close fights difficult to score tho sticking your
head out of the ring will hardly endear you to the judges.
I've not really got a problem with the Ali fight; he built a lead early and Jimmy didn't exactly go out there and give a "I want the belt badly!" performance.

    I loved Young...

I agree, Young beat them both pretty clear. Early on in Jimmys career he was (like a heavyweight Freddie pembleton) he was thrown in with the lions in the ring and in the Gyms, but he was the one who rose above it and learned great defensive skills. H ecame up from the school of hard knocks like J.J.Walcott

Imagine if he had wins over Shavers, Foreman, Ali, lyle 2x, Norton.....we would be talking about young as a top 15 heavyweight of all time

He slipped so far that by 1986 he lost a decision to Chuck Gardner.

Anyone who remembers the Frank Bruno- Chuck Gardner match will know how tragic that is.

    Yup.

He looked like he was just going to cry right after the Norton fight. He just stared into Cosell's eyes and Cosell was like "I'm going to leave you alone, you're too dissapointed".

    Sad.

Well, for those who think he deserved decisions against Shavers, Ali and Norton I think it would be fair to rank him accordingly.

If that puts him in the top 15 all-time then fair enough. Why let the judges - who you say got it wrong - dictate your all-time rankings ??

Lewis gets credit in the all-time ratings for TWO Holyfield wins.
Some give Walcott credit for beating Joe Louis.
Why not just give Young the same allowance ?

Personally, I haven't scored the Norton fight, haven't seen the Shavers fight, and I dont think the Ali fight was impressive.
Ali looked as bad as he did later on in the Leon Spinks fight !

I do give Lewis credit for two wins over Holyfield.

I let a fighters performance infulence me. Not King's cronies getting rich off the unification match being a draw.

I agree. I give Lewis credit too.
You cant let the judges rob any fighter of deserved recognition on your all-time list, therefore if Jimmy Young deserves "top 15" as SuzieQ suggested he might, then put him there.

I've never made a list but he'd be in my top 20, I'd bet just about anything on that.

Considering he was 180lbs at one time, that he absolutely ran roughshed over the 70's heavyweights which is the supposed golden age of them, a non-disputed FOTY win over a still invulnerable Foreman in an absolute masterclass, and so on...

How was his fight with Page close? Page dominated most of the fight, then gave away a few rounds.
