When asked to rate Norton, Foreman, Lyle and Shavers he maintained the same story over the years. Credible list for me.

    1. Shavers
    2. Foreman
    3. Lyle
    4. Norton

Well, Young got stopped early I believe in his rematch with Shavers........ Or was it the other way around??? I never saw either fight........... I know Shavers was a wicked puncher, but I also believe his power is fabled to a degree....... Shavers KO'd many "Ham and Eggers" to pad his record and percentage.......

Shavers is every chance of being the hardest punching human being in history Bill, i don't think he needs much fabling.

Shavers' reputation as "the hardest puncher ever" comes largely from his opponents' insistence that he was as much as anything he actually did in the ring. If not for that, I'm not sure he would've gone down as being considered a puncher on par (or better?) as someone like Foreman. Certainly, none of his KOs were quite as shocking and significant as Foreman's over Frazier and Moorer.

Nice to see Jimmy gave a man who sparked him #1 spot. An all too rare occurrence in fighters. Usually the "guy who knocked me out didn't punch as hard as the one I stopped in three" makes most of these lists tedious.

When Shavers put Holmes flat on his back that was fairly shocking at the time. Larry got up, but he was right flattened by one blast. I, too, find it hard to believe that Shavers punched harder than Foreman; but unlike Young, I never got hit by either of them. So I guess I'll take his word for it.

Shavers could punch, but so could "Baer, Louis, Marciano, Cleve Williams, Liston, Foreman, Weaver, Coetzee, Tyson, Pinklon Thomas, Bones Smith, Lennox Lewis & The "K" bros........ Who's to say for sure who was or is more wicked????

Well i think the best one to ask would be
Ali -Said Shavers hit harder than anyone he faced including Foreman,Liston,Fraizer,Norton and every other fighter he face

Holmes- When comparing Shavers and Tysons power Holmes said Tyson is the sharper puncher but that Shavers was the Hardest puncher

    Young-- Confirmed it!

Cobb- I think Cobb said Bernardo mercardo and Shavers hit him the hardest

How the hell does Weaver and Thomas (at the very least) get in there Bill

    It's like this Bill

Muhammad Ali, Joe Bugner, Larry Holmes, Randall "Tex" Cobb, Ron Lyle and Ken Norton all credited Shavers as being the hardest puncher they had ever faced in the ring.

When one thinks deeper about all the punchers these guys actually faced (3-3 have him above Foreman, a MASSIVE hitter) and the fact that they all came to Shavers, well. That's enough for me to believe without doubt he's the biggest puncher of his era and i believe quite likely of all time. This isn't one or two fighters or a collection of biased opinions. Each to their own.

Exactly. Which proves the lame excuse of "Who did he KO" as being really meaningless. Shavers had raw power, and not the skills, delivery, or ability to connect like Foreman. But he probably hit harder.

I recall hearing Cobb say that Shavers "hit so hard he'll break your legs."
